my Gsi has done almost 80,000 miles !!! so i guess i should be using a 20-40w oil at least, right??? and whats the best brand to use???

my car makes a clicking tapping noise upon start up for few minutes!! i guess using a thin oil causes that so using a thicker oil should cure that problem init???

so are all fully synthetic oils thin, 0-35w or 5-40w or sumting like that???

10/40 either magnetec or vauxhal own semi sythetic.

When i had my head gasket done the garrage put in fully synthetic and it made it very tappy. Go for semi synthetic 10/40

depends on mileage of the car

what oil should i be using? i got a 1.2 8v little bit noisy on startup, thought magnatec should take care of that?

can be many things, but 2 main ones are:

oil valve stem sills

or

if ur engine has done alot of miles, then the bores will be warn, so ull need to get them re-bored and over sized pistons fitted

valve stem seals is a head off job. Same cost really as changing the head gasket. its a good time to change the cam belt as well.

Piston rings is also head off plus sump off.

Id say cost of head gasket change plus £60 for rings, £10 for sump gasket, £10 for rod bolts. Then a few hours labour

yeh, would stick to more viscoss 15/40, 20/40 , 20/50 etc? nothing too thin

Gambit

the oil he is using is too thin for the engine and it's just pissin it all away

could it be dissy oil seals? the ford cvh engines tend to leak here(not much like but worth askin u)

needs to be done really soon if its lossin that much oil then who knows next time it might only last a day and oil seals are much cheaper than new engines and rebores etc, i had a problem like this on orion ghia it was the sump

Gambit

agreed, and if it's a high miler & still losing some oil then try 20w-40

Cybermonkey

monkey, do not use fully synthetic oil because your engine is too old and the viscosity is not high enough. stick with what is in the manual. 15-40w should be used.

depends where the leak is... is its sump.. replace the gasket.. case of undoing bolts

Similar thing to this, not trying to hijack the thread.. BUT, how do you fix oil leaks ? Might sound a dumbass question, but i just wanna know

since i topped it up 2 days ago its fine not gone down in oil level, but i havnt noticed any extra smoke on gear change or blue smoke at all!!!!!!:boggle::boggle::boggle:

so, how much isit for new oil valve stem seal???

and does new piston rings cost loads???

ive heard the Gsi corsas have oil problems!!!!
i use GTX magnatec 10-40w, is this ok, ive heard a fully synthetic oils are better, but are they any good for the Gsi corsas???

thanks for the help guys

My GSI empties its sump once a week!!!! oil valve stem seals or god forbid piston rings, if there is smoke on the gear change its seals, smoke all the time its piston rings

Corsa^Dan

either burnt or leak,

but i think u would of noticed if it burt all that oil, would be pushing shite loads of blue smoke... hmm

u toppped it up and has it gone down?

MoNkEy MaGiC

Corsa^Dan
