Have you tried rolling your car fowards or backwards, to rotate the box?

have a similar problem with mine, and this seems to help... give it a try may work for you.

i sometimes have to do that with mine, think its probably your linkage, cos the first couple of gears are made to mesh easier i think. something mechanical is out of line i wud say

Again, don't think so. You could have trouble getting into gear. Then when you get it in would have no problems. Could drive it for an hour, then turn off the ignition and you would again have trouble getting into gear! :(

Gear selection is mechanical, nothing electrical about it.

Maybe once the gearbox has warmed up and the oil has thinned a bit its easier to select.

But it only has problem selecting 1st from the first time you start up the engine. When you have selected 1st and the engine is running you can get every other gear as easy as anything. Don't think it could be a problem with the gear linkages.

The ECU has no barring on gear selection!

Its going to be an out of alignment linkage I would have thought.

This has been happening regulary since Sunday. Start up the engine go to select gear and won't go in. Wont select any gear. Turn off engine and restart and still same problem. After about 5 on and off's of the ignition it lets me select 1st gear and then its fine again getting into every gear until the engine is switched off again. The only other way I have managed is to turn off the engine then select 1st gear then drive off that way when the engine is started in gear.

Can't be the clutch. Has only be changed a month ago and has done 800 miles. There has also been no signs or funny noises coming from the clutch area.

Could this be an ECU fault as its only on start up? Once I get started and can change into 1st it is fine after that. Gets into all the gears without any bother!

I am so ?????? :(
