I'll do 2 days (max) labour for £500!

The LET not only costs over twice as much as the xe but is harder to fit.

Most people could easily do it themselves, its just having the confidence/resources to do get it done.

I changed my engine in 2 days with a mate, there is nothing tricky to it. Once you've seen it done, you hate yourself for paying £500!?!?! for it to be done.

yer oviously it will be cheaper than 1500 if u done it ur self, but how many people can actualy do that, not many

1500 i reckon is a fair price, 500 engine,loom,ecu,brakes - 500 pvd fitting kit, 500 labour

as for c20let, beardy charges about 2.5k

yer c20let is 204bhp

Max P doesn't know its arse from its elbow.

Standard LET engine is 204bhp. If they are looked after and fitted properly there should be no reliability issues.

You could always super charge it! There's a place near me that's rumoured to be doing the first one in Europe!

are teh 2.0ltr turbo's unreliable? their 300bhp straight in arent they? how come hardly any people put turbos in their corsas? for the price they give a lot of bhp return

how much are webbers and do they put the insurance up by a lot? if i was to buy a astra gte donor car are all the parts a direct replacement? have heard throttle bodies sound well nice :)

thats just the MBE that SBD use.

SBD's aren't the best as u have to wait for ur car to warm up before they will perform, cos if u drive with engine cold, engine will cut out until warm. ur better off going for something like webber etc.
c20let conversion is 3k+

I wouldn't say SBD are the best.

Tb's on 8v's aint worth the it.

£1500 for a c20xe conversion?! Thats expensive. You can buy an Astra Gte 16v for £400 and use the engine/brakes etc, and sell nearly enough other stuff to get your money back.

If an Xe coversion is £1500, a Let conversion will be alot more than £2k.

 cheers m8 think i'll stick with the same lump for a while, so if i choose to tune me 1.4 8v how much bhp do u guys rekon i'll have? tempted to go with throttle bodies but do they put the insurance up alot??

christ where to start:

traditional tuning route:

Head work
Cams
Exhaust manifold
Exhaust system
Air box (these inc velos tourqe tube, manzal power box etc)

Then u got Throttal Bodies:

SBD are best, but most expensive

Then u got Turbo route:

Expensive for the power u get back, not to reliable tho esp. from courtney as they charge £3000 for it and use 3 single head gaskets instead of a tripple head gasket

Or some people have converted their engine them selfs into a turbo lump

Engine Transplant:

Most cost effective, good bhp and tourqe

Typical conversions are the 2.0 16v engine, and a few do the 2.0 Turbo engine

for a 2.0 16v ur looking at £1500 all in
2.0 Turbo alittle more, about £2000 maybe more

Lee Mitchell in kent does them, so does Beardy in Manchester

Then u got NOS, depending on ur engine size determins how much u can safley put through at a time without internal strengthening

1.6 16v = 50bhp
1.4 16v = 30-35 bhp
1.2 = 25bhp

u can allways use a progressive NOS controller to lessen the damaging effects NOS has

It all depends on how much money u wanna spend, and/or what engine u got

Grigllet has done a turbo conversion on the 1.4 bv mpi b4 and so has sum1 else from scotland not worth it at all, very unreliable and not cost effective, if you want best power increase per £ get a c20xe £1500 150-156 bhp as standard.

U2U lee mitchell if you wana know more....
