Ultimate cheap conversion - Machine extra groove in 2ltr Astra shafts and slide CV joint past original groove into new groove - and hey presto - Heavy duty competition shafts !!!! using astra inner and outer cv joint !!- all thats required is 2 machine astra flanges to fit corsa/nova wheel bearings!!! Job done and a lot cheaper than everyone elses shafts !

my tapered shafts lasted 3 and a half years so not to bad

vauxgirl- my old nova valver done well over 20k with this setup untill i sold it and my mates SRi corsa has had it for well over a year now

IMHO taperd shafts are a waste of time

you wont know untill you did. I went for the 1.6 driveshaft 2.0 cv joint route and spent the first couple of hours not bootin it for fear of snapping them, then though ang on what was the point of the conversion, one quick boot later and everything was still in one piece :) better to use new/recon'd cv joints though as slightly worn ones will get eaten really quickly, especially if the car is lowered

why would it snap? its a lot stronger design than the shafts you had in!

Lisa

i have a mk2 cav inner cv on a standard corsa shaft as a temp measure as i snapped a tapered one, works perfectly well but dont want to give it too much stick in the first 2 gears as it might snap with the torque.mk2 cav 1600cc

u need to buy stong bolt for this job as the standard bolt are not that long.
so u need to longer High ten's. bolts with lock nuts, about 2" longer then the standard tie bar bolts.
best to lower tie bar reather than just roll bar as better for tracktion, and for the power steering (if using)
