thats what a crank sensor usually does anyway
wont be the starter motor as a starter motor would'nt stop it from being bump started

best thing to do would be to plug it in and see what it comes back with

Yes that sounds about right, my old one just did it straight away and still was a crank sensor - i had loads changed and it kept doing it then that was the last sensor and it stopped - it would do it on corners or motorways pain in the arss.

Only thing that ever lasted long enough was getting it on the computer and resetting.
i even changed my fuel filter

Did the lights dim when you tried to start it? Any clicking noise?

Even if immobiliser has kicked in it would turn over.

The fact that it doesn't - suggests that starter motor is kaput or is not getting power.

Mine was the sensors (Crank) i think, We changed a few - it was about 3 years ago now - no signs shown up on mine - just cut out when it wanted and wouldn't start again - its a very common fault in the E46 shape.
After that it ran perfectly fine…

If it was crank sensor I think it would still turn over, just not fire.

Immobiliser seems likely.

Not been able to jump start it or bump it ( pushing and towing ) i've reprogrammed the key. Took the battery off and on and basicly everything else you can think of. Now i wasn't able to run a wire directly to the starter to see if it would kick it in but that would be the next step i think.

Still has anyone heard of this problem before? is it something common that i have not heard about. Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.

I had a problem like this with my older BMW this was a E46 318I though - mine would start sometimes not all and when I was driving would sometimes just cut out and then not start again - I have a friend who's a BMW specialist and mine ended up just being sensors. Id get it the computer if you know anyone near you….
I got rid not long after I had a constant oil leak that I kept mending - then my header tank and radiator went… Pain in the butt

If it doesn't bump, its not the starter.

starter motor would be my call, that said just had to do one on the astra for similar reasons

if it was immobilised it would show a light on the dash? and normally it would crank
