It's up to you. I changed mine and they haven't leaked

Don't really plan to change the oil pump as it's not really a rebuild just replacing necessary parts. How much is the sbd oil pump rebuild kit out of interest?

Belts and pullys were removed today and can't see any signs of any oil or anything around the pump so should i really remove the pump and replace the oil pump gasket and crank seal if there is no sign of leaking??

Knowing my luck id replace them and the new gaskets will end up leaking :boggle:

If you change the oil pump, fit the SBD uprated inner gear and nylon relief.

I know it won't be cheap, but you're better off doing a full rebuild all off these engine have been around for ages, and have done loads of miles.

IMO, when you start changing things that really don't need changed, then thats when you run into problems like breaking sensors or bolts, threading bolt holes and the likes.

Sods law really, when you start to change something for the good, it normally goes bad.

That's what i was thinking mate.

Not sure what to do yet, just going to wait until the belt & pullys come off so i can look to see if there is any sign of leaking.

Any other bits recommded before i email the list to autovaux for prices?

Change all the gaskets, you'll regret it in the long run if you don't once it starts leaking  Don't need to do the head gasket.

Clutch you said is fine.

Thats all you really need to check while its out tbh, not much else. Check the water bar for any cracks if its a plastic one, there known for cracking and it will be much easier to change with the engine out.

50 quid for cambelt kit wheres this? I need a round tooth one

Autovaux. At least I think thats what I paid for mine?

Are they easy to do? and is it worth really doing if there is no sign of leaking?

Yea really easy. Once all belt and tensioners are off then you can get to the pump. I think there 10mm bolts about 6 of them. First though take the bottom pulley off, slide the spacer off and the you can see the seal. (middle of pump) Poke it out with a flat blade and prize it out. Make sure when you fit new one you do it evenily so it seals properly then I'd take pump off and change gasket.

DansCorsaSXi

Yea they can be bought separate mate.
;)

Mark.W

Think il wait until it's all running because if they do leak it would be easily accessable Dan.

Can the gaskets be bought seperate so wont need to buy a complete thermostat?

DansCorsaSXi

posted on 11th Jul 12 at 21:16

Both thermostat gaskets Mark, mine leaked as soon as i had it running.

Mark.W

Not sure about doing ALL the gaskets as the engine is bone dry apart from the sump gasket in 1 corner.

Water pump
Timing belt kit
Clutch
Rocker cover gasket
Throttle body gasket
Inlet manifold gasket
Exhaust manifold Gasket
Spark plugs
HT leads
Sump/baffle plate gasket
Coolant temp sensor
Water bar (upgrading to metal one)
Crank seal
Oil pump gasket

I'd do clutch as it's more of a ball ache doing it in the car.

Tensioners and belts I did for piece of mind. I did all the gaskets but then again I did a full rebuild.

CTS is worth changing because they're really cheap and can cause running problems if they are dodgey.

Spark plugs, HT leads if they look dodgey.

Can't think of too much else :)

Is there any parts that people would recommend replacing before fitting the engine into the car?

Clutch looks to have plenty life left in it and the timing belt & pullys look in very good condition & not too old but will probably still replace these for peace of mind.

Anything else worth replacing?
