A small how to guide that may be of help, tried to put it in the tutorials but couldnt post there, mods welcome to move it.
Sorry for all the caps, cut and pasted from my website as i didnt want to retype the whole thing out

ONE OF THE FIRST THINGS ON THE CORSA B THAT STARTS LOOKING TIRED AND TATTY IS THE BOOT ON THE GEAR STICK, LUCKILY THOUGH REPLACING IT IS ONE OF THE EASIEST MODIFICATIONS YOU CAN DO. THERE ARE ALSO PLENTY OF OPTIONS FOR FITTING SOMETHING A BIT DIFFERENT TO THE STANDARD BLACK ITEM. WE HAVE GONE FOR A SUBTLE CHANGE AND OPTED FOR A BLACK BOOT WITH RED STITCHING TO MATCH THE COLOUR OF THE CAR.

TO

STEP 1

FIRST WE NEED TO REMOVE THE OLD GEAR STICK BOOT. IF YOU FEEL AROUND THE BASE OF THE BOOT YOU WILL FEEL THE PLASTIC FRAME UNDERNEATH. GENTLY PUSH IN THE EDGES WHILST PULLING UPWARDS AND THE BASE SHOULD UNCLIP FROM THE SURROUND.


STEP 2

PULL THE BOOT UP AND OVER THE GEAR KNOB TO EXPOSE THE UNDERNEATH OF THE BOOT.


STEP 3

THE NECK OF THE BOOT IS HELD IN PLACE USING A CABLE TIE. IN ORDER TO REMOVE IT, YOU WILL NEED TO CUT OFF THE OLD CABLE TIE USING A PAIR OF SIDE CUTTERS.


STEP 4

PULL THE BOOT UP AND OVER THE GEAR KNOB TO REMOVE FROM CAR.


STEP 5

TAKE NOTE OF WHICH WAY ROUND THE BOOT GOES AS ONE SIDE WILL BE LONGER THAN THE OTHER.


STEP 6

THE BOOT WILL BE FIXED TO THE PLASTIC SURROUND BY STAPLES AROUND THE EDGES, THESE WILL NEED TO BE REMOVED.


STEP 7

PICK OUT THE STAPLES, DON'T WORRY IF YOU DON'T HAVE A STAPLE REMOVER A KNIFE OR SCREWDRIVER WILL DO JUST AS WELL TO PICK THEM OUT.


STEP 8

NEXT YOU NEED TO STRETCH THE NEW BOOT OVER THE PLASTIC SURROUND, TAKING CARE TO GET IT THE CORRECT WAY ROUND AND TO LINE UP THE STITCHING WITH THE CORNERS OF THE SURROUND. NEXT WORK YOUR WAY ROUND CAREFULLY STAPLING THE NEW BOOT IN PLACE. YOU MAY NEED TO CUT OUT NOTCHES IN THE NEW BOOT TO CLEAR THE CLIPS THAT FIT THE SURROUND TO THE CAR. ONCE COMPLETE IT SHOULD LOOK LIKE THE LOWER PICTURE.



STEP 9

THE BOOT IS NOW READY FOR FITTING BACK INTO YOUR CAR.


STEP 10

BEFORE GOING ANY FURTHER CHECK THAT YOU HAVE THE BOOT THE CORRECT WAY ROUND.


STEP 11

KEEPING THE FRAME THE SAME WAY ROUND PUSH THROUGH THE BOOT SO THAT IT IS INSIDE OUT.


STEP 12

STRETCH THE NECK OF THE BOOT OVER THE GEAR KNOB.


STEP 13

PULL THE NECK OF THE BOOT DOWN THE GEAR STICK TO THE SAME POINT AS THE ORIGINAL BOOT WAS. ONCE IN PLACE DO UP THE CABLE TIE TO HOLD THE NECK OF THE BOOT IN PLACE. YOU MAY NEED TO USE A PAIR OF PLIERS TO GET THIS GOOD AND TIGHT.


STEP 14

ONCE THE CABLE TIE IS FASTENED CUT OFF THE EXCESS WITH A SET OF SIDE CUTTERS.


STEP 15

THE SURROUND CAN THEN BE REFITTED BY INSERTING THE FRONT EDGE FIRST, THEN BY PUSHING DOWN THE BACK EDGE TO CLIP IT INTO PLACE.
