Right, I have the 1.2 16V engine. I removed the plastic "Ecotec" cover and used "Gunk" to clean the engine. I then used Halfords high temperature engine paint to paint the metal rocker cover. I didn't remove it as you need a new gasket! It is brushed on, which doesn't look as good as sprayed paint, but its OK. I need to rub mine down now and give it a second coat.

I painted my cover and it looked crap! Just paint the rocker cover (metal top) and leave the plastic piece as is. Although, they're only just over a fiver - give it a go, see what you think.

sounds to me like you are running an 8 valve engine.

in that case...... get yourself a new gasket and then take all the bolts off. paint it whatever way you want then replace gasket and put back on. REMEMBER: always tighten the bolts in a circular motion so you dont damage any parts. maybe you should consukt a haynes manual about that
