Take the chance. I drove 55 miles down the M4, passed a few jam Sandwiches and didn't get pulled. If you are worried get a mate to escort you to the garage.

The skirts are def no problem but I think as people have said unless its a rap around bumper like on a fiesta MK1 (which obviously a GSi isn't!) then yeah it is illegal to drive but just to the body shop I wouldnt worry too much about it, its not like u goin miles down the motorway like that or anythin!

I drove mine for a whole weekend going to and from my friends house who lives 14 miles away, with no Front bumper.
He was spraying my bumper so had to get there somehow.
Luckily I didnt encounter any police but didnt really think about it at the time.

I personally would risk taking them off if its not far.
Just dive down a back street if you see plod.
Make sure you still display your number plate though.

right so basically take off the skirts and they can be sent out, is there a way I can take out some of the screws and just leave a couple in for easiness, might just take off skirts and then leave the bumper

Cant see why there should be a problem with the skirts.

But think with no front bumper you might be illegal cos of the sharpe edges, ie if someone stepped out in front of u and u hit them, its going to be messy!

You would prob get away with it tho, or just take a mate with you, drive there with bumper on, take it off ureself when you get there and stick bumper in back of ure mates car or sumit.

My view........scrap your car, they'll give you a whole £25 for it if you take the tyres off.

any other views ? the body shop is about 5 - 10 minutes drive maximum, what about the skirts ? cheers

ajscorsa

posted on 1st Apr 03 at 07:34

well it probably illegal if i dont have a front bumper cos then its not covering the sharpe edges or something like that. but if the bodyshop aint far then just chance it
