ICVs are easy to clean. Just be gentle and use some carb cleaner and you should be fine. Worth a try anyway, if that doesn't work then buy a new one. At least you would have tried the free option first

you can clean the butterfly valve, but best to replace it, they aint cheap, about £75 iirc, buying second hand kind of defeats the purpose, but I suppose its an easy fix

pretty sure you can clean them

but if they are cheap then you might aswell just replace it.

as said though do a paperclip test to see what codes its bringing up

Does that include the starting up issue too? Did you reple the ICV or just clean it (if you can?)

Is this something easier to replace than clean up and see if its made any difference?

Can it still be read after its gone out? It comes and goes the EML

Idle Control Valve probably. If the EM light is on then get the fault code read to be sure.

Hey Guys,

My brother is having some bother with his 1.4 sport. Basically sometimes it struggles to start and when it does it sounds like its going to cut out unless you give it some throttle then it idles normally. Also from time to time it will start revving itself, going form idle to aroudn 2500rpm and back down. The engine management light comes on from time to time.

Any idead as to what may be wrong/need replacing?

Thanks
