I'm doing this conversion at the moment :) Your're right about the wiring not being plug and play. The 1.0 12v and 1.2 16v's use different dash looms to the rest of the models. I've decided to change the loom on mine as I didn't fancy chopping up the original loom trying to get it to work.
The dash board isn't that hard to take out to be honest. Its just a case a stripping all the parts off it and then undoing a handful of bolts to get the actual dash board out. I had mine ready to come out after a couple of hours. If you do decide to do it this way I'd recommend marking the original dash loom so you know what goes where  This will be a massive help when you come to put the new one back on.
If you decide to do it the other way and modify the other loom heres a link to a tutorial that might help :)

Might be worth checking my project thread out as well, shows how mines gone through all the stages, and the problems I've faced
Hope that helps!

I want to do a conversion on my girlfriends 1.0 12v corsa b to a 1.6 16v. I have read somewhere that i would have to rip out all the dashboard wire's and replace them or ''bodge'' the wire's. I dont mind replacing the engine wiring loom as it will be easy but if i have to rip out the dashboard and replace the dashboard loom i dont think i will bother because it will mean alot of messing about. Can anyone help me pleaseee? :(
