i asked for a quote for a timing chain kit change on my B. Vaux quoted around 260.
isnt it the tensioners that fuck up and not the actual chain?

You don't need to change the cam chain every 80k

I think Vauxhall advise every 100k, but most people say it never needs changing.

EDIT: And it's a shame Vauxahll don't offer the kit to just replace the chain anymore. I had this done by Warren very very cheaply and sorted mine. This was over 30k miles ago.

my 12v B had 120,000 miles, fairly noisey chain (but I've heard louder). Just ran and ran!

When I got my corsa C, it had 94,000 and the chain was louder than on my B. So got a quote for it doing. m £450 from a local garage! :!

Yes do an oil change & run a small amount of engine flush (it works quite well if you follow the instructions to the letter!!!!!) it might free it up, failing that would just need a chain change with new tensioners. In all honesty those engines need to be serviced so regularly & carefully because if the filter falls apart & ends up clogging something like an oil squirter on the chain it'll chew itself in hours!!

ild say a oil change is advisable. A timing chain should be changed around 80k miles apparently. Crazy money to fix though.. i was quoted around 400

my engines on 67000. so its worth doing a oil change/service to see if that makes it any better?

its needs a modified tensioner, but everythings apart you should change the chain too

They're always loud mate, how many miles is your engine on?

Changing the oil can make it quieter... for a bit

im pretty sure there self adjustment and the only way to sort them out is to renew the chain and tensioner .

you hear it loudest on idle, the timing chain is rattly. How would i get this sorted? would it be a new tensioner, or a new chain or both? or just adjust the existing tensioner? thanks

or any other ideas to sort this?
