Just back from Vauxhall. It was the Temp sensor. This was tricken the ECU into thinking that the car was running hot and therefore the engine was ajusting the timing to stop the car from pinking.........but as the car wasnt running hot it was pinking

I'm by no means an expert but here goes..

Pre Ignition (pinking) occurs when the air fuel mixture ignites early. By early I mean when the piston is not at the top of its stroke and the valves are fully closed. The rattling noise is your partially open valves getting rattled in their guides when the air fuel mixture ignites.

Could be knock sensor detetcing knock and altering the timing? actually do the corsas have knock sensors? how do they detect knock,

Unlikely to be o2 sensor as pinking is caused by incorrect timing not fuel, perhaps try looking at cam and crank angle sensors as these directly affect the spark!

Pinking is a sound created when the ignition timing is out.
