10w/40 is what Vauxhall recommend for the ecotec engines. They use 15w/40 for the 1.2 8v's i think....

you did leave enough time after turning off engine to let oil drain to sump! gotta leave it a while to get a correct reading

I had something similar. We went touring round the south of england last summer so I did an oil change before hand. When we got there (about 500 miles) the oil had dropped to just above min, and it had been stood for over an hour. So I put half a litre in and checked again later on and it was way above max. Confusing eh?

I always tend to use the best oil in my car. Castrol GTX Magnetec is supposed to be a good oil. Also Mobil 1.

Just make sure you get Semi-Synthetic 10w40 oil.

You arent supposed to mix semi synthetic and mineral based oils.

if its in between min n max then it will be ok. u top it up when its on minimum or just above. Better off getting ur own oil m8 - use semi synthetic

Ive got a C SXi DTi.

Ive been checking the oil every week. Up to and including yesterday everytime I've checked it, its said *Above the MAX. I was a little concerned at this, but then I noticed the manual said that when its new that the oil will be above the MAX, until it all runs in properly.

Its now done about 1120 miles. I gave it a long-ish run yesterday - 170 miles. I just checked the oil this afternoon and its in the middle, between MIN and MAX . !

I'm very surprised that while it didnt consume any oil in the first 950 or so miles, it jumped from Above Max - to inbetween min and max , in that one drive.

My question is, when shall I fill it up? Is it likely to use any more oil soon ? Is it still okay to drive? Shal I take it to the dealer so they can put the oil they recommend in there ?

:D
Thanks
Mike
