Good mate

Ste, heard of that before. Take it you need the alternator off to take the pulley off though? How hard is it to remove?

Only solutions I've thought of are either change bottom pulley, alty and PAS pump for single-V components or weld up a bar with two 90 degree bends in it, place it between the alternator pulley and inner wing and melt fuck out of it with a mallet.

So it's either spend about a ton getting the correct parts (which I'll probably do at one point) or batter fuck out of the car.

EDIT: or make up some sort of brace so that the engine can't move that far to the drivers' side.

i will update how i get on, putting front strut on, i'll try tighten it up, check the mounts are tight as hell, and i have the v-pulley on so if i can move it slightly i'll do my best!

or chop a rib from the pully

and get more clearance

Funny you mention this, im way to rebuild my car, and i had this problem..any tips of how to get rid of it? I thought it was caused by a mount being slack or broken!

B3KAN

I had this problem lol easy to do  You will need 1 off these CLICK :) Then slacken the bolt at the bottom alt bracket so the alt can move then get an old belt and cut it and adjust the alt to what it should be so the belt would be tight then mark the belt and take it to your local motor factors and they will get you a belt the correct size, then its a case off fitting it and tightning everything up, job done

Only way I can think is if you use the bracket that allows the alternator to swivel if you remove it.

Get a bit of string and wrap it around the two pulleys. Tie a knot in it, measure the circumference and I'd get a pulley about 10mm smaller than that size.

Undo said bracket, swivel alternator forward, fit belt and then prise the alternator back up so the hole the bolt goes through on the bracket lines up with the one on the alternator.

Bit crude, I know, but can't really think of any other way. And you may need to experiment with using defferent belt sizes.

ive just fitted a c20xe into my corsa b. i think i have the late type alternator as it has no adjustment on it and is multi v .It was adjusted by the idler pulley which i removed along with the p/s pump. how do i go about getting an alternator belt to adjust and what belt do i use
