That was the next thing Dave, we ran it with the pipes off and it made no difference but never checed if the vac pipe was sucking air in (we blocked it before starting the car)

Will check it out tomorrow :)

check the vaccum pipes are not blocked.

Forgot to add, its a X16XE. With the sensor unplugged the code goes from 62: high voltage to 61: low voltage

My mates car keeps putting the ECU light on while driving around and the code is 62, fuel tank ventilation valve voltage high. We have swapped it 3 times now and the same fault is still coming up, all the earths on the engine look ok and we cant see any problems with the wiring going to the vent valve. Has anyone got any ideas what we could check next?

The code has been cleared using diagnostic software but appears again as soon as the ECU tries to move the vent valve above 0%
