ticking might be your thingy (cant remember the name!) opening and closing errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.......ICV methinks.

anyhoo, my corsa did this when i fitted a valve filter wrong, i always had to rev the arse off it to stop it stalling.

anyhoo simply reset your ecu and the engine will configure itself when u next start it. When i did it started fine afterwards!

airflow meter, having this problem with mine for ages had a new egr valve and lambda sensor and fixed slightly, unplugged my airflow meter and it was like a brand new car no problems at all except eml on all the time coz its not plugged in, new one coming tmra though.

ticking is probably the injectors

there is a fast 'ticking' sound coming from around the inlet. is this from the ICV and if so does it always make that noise? car always stalls now but when you start again it stays on but with same problems.

if you keep the pedal held down it does actually stall. i cleaned my air filter and it seems to have stopped the EM light coming on at 4Krpm but it still comes on under load.

cant do paper clip on X12XE. today after i started i tried to rev it to warm up faster and instead of rising the revs kept dropping, at one point almost stalling till i came off the pedal

regardless of that being the 'automatic choke', it still shouldn't be juddery on start etc.

Do paperclip test and get us fault codes...

However, I have no suggestions on what the problem actually is, but sounds like it's running too rich, perhaps CTS, lambda, AFM?

lmao its the automatic choke coming in...shudnt just get in any car and drive it straight away spec revving high...if u do this in a turbo car it will be bost in months lol...just warm ure car up on idle for 1 minute or so...rev low at first then it will warm up and be normal

This "FI engines don't have chokes" is just pure pedant talk, technically they don't, but it's still called an automatic choke by many.....

A choke is that, a choke. It chokes the engine of air.

A ecu just add's more air(opens icv) to make the engine idle higher, making it warm up quicker. They have no choke.

could there be a problem with my cold start?

as usual i will say AFM sensor as i have exactly the same engine as that.

if you have an induction kit, it could cause the hesistation if it's not fitted properly or not getting enough cold air.

i did cut the side off my air box, but im not sure if thats when it started.
i sort of patched it up with an ice cream tub lid but that hasn't done anything :o

Fuel injected cars don't have chokes.

Differant car, but my revs are the same when cold. Blip the throttle and you'll see it drop.

there is a problem when i start the car after it has been left for a while. it starts fine but you can smell petrol outside the car (sometimes inside).
It moves the revs up and down slightly by itself but no enough to show on the gauge. it holds at about 1.1Krpm for a few minuites then drops to 900rpm.
if you try to pull off straight away it crawls along, juddering and sometimes there is a knocking sound from the drivers side.
If i leave it to warm up for about 3 mins its fine, although it sometimes hesitates, usually when you try to pull out quickly
also, if you rev higher than about 3.5 to 4Krpm, the EM light comes on and it accelerates slower than usual.
i did a search and i think it sounds like cold start enrichment.
thanks for taking the time to read this, if you have, any comments appreciated, thanks
