I ended up knocking a screwdriver in carefully on the XE. A bit of a pain to get undone that!

'loosened the 3 gearbox bolts and sump bolts'

undo the gearbox bolts

just remove all the bolts saying that

You have to "persuade" it off.

The gasket and a lot of silicone sealent keeps it stuck on well.

hi all i started striping down the car engine today and i hit my first stumbling block I CANNOT get the dammed sump off.

i have undone all the bolts that hold it on at the sump and the 3 on the side of the gearbox housing what else is there.

I also relised how much fun working under a lower car is again, had to park it half up a kerb then jack it up on the side that was up the kerb just so i could get under the dammed thing  space was limited

Do i just need to wack it hard untill i break the gasket seal or are the other parts i need to undo that i have missed.

I should add that i,m doing this with out a hynes manual so i,m just looking about before i unbolt :!

So far i have removed the exhaust from the downpipe to the middle section

Drained the oil

Broke the torque, loosened the 3 gearbox bolts and sump bolts,

Gave the sump a few good wacks with a rubber mallet
removed all the bolts

Hit the sump some more Nothing !!!!

Tryed hitting a corner of the corner of it from above in the hope of hitting it loose still nothing is there another bolt of something i have missed or is it just welded on.

All advice welcome

Tomorrow im off to get wheel ramps and axle stands
Knowing my luck tho it wond fit up the ramps :(
