i've been looking on other threads and there's loads o' people with the same problem.
could it be the heat shield on the outlet pipes, or on the manifold....?
shall i just rip 'em both off? if so, do i need to replace them asap?
thanks for the help everyone :D

I'd put money on it being the metal exhaust manifold heat sheild rattling. Unbolt it and fling it in the bin. Then take it for a spin.

whenever i'm driving i can hear some kind of scraping noise from near the engine. it happens after i've put it in gear, and got the revs/speed up almost to shift up another gear, and only for a second or two.
it never happens when i'm revvin the car in neutral.
recently my timing belt had started slipping and makin a feckin horrible noise, so i tightened it up. it needs replacing asap, but i was wondering whether this could be the cause...?
i think cos it doesn't happen in neutral when i'm revving, it can't be the timing belt...?
cheers
