Definitely get some SBD rollers though, they're worth it.

But don't get their uprated valve springs because they will destroy your GM cam rollers
And when they sell the valve springs they don't say nothing!!!!!!!!
But you do need new valve springs, after 60k of driving till 7500 rpm tha standard valve springs didn't recover the valves and hitted the nş 4 pistons:mad:

Then fitted the uprated SBD valve springs and caps and it destroyed the cambelt Urg-hhhhhhhhhhhhh!

now with new GM valve springs, SBD valve caps and 1 mm C16XE pistons and everything is ok...

ARP bolts??

never broked a conrod bolt

cheers

i have fitted a set before to my mates 1.6 16v engined nova track car and yes you do have to counter sink the bearing caps cheers for all the advice

you get the 4 stage process with the bolts dont you? but i would like to see the full instructions if you have them please Dave :)

they need to be countersunk and then the bolts torqued up using a 4 stage process.

ARP rod bolts were never designed to go into these engines, it just so happens that they are the right length and thread and stronger so people use them.

if anyone wants I will post up full instructions?

ok im confused :S ive got some arps but do the bearing end caps need drilling & countersinking or can they go straight on?? if so it seems stupid to sell them if something else needs to be done to fit them properly

funny thing was it didnt tell me the sequence for the head studs :o... i used the sequence for standard headbolts and seems to be fine tho

csweatherston

Dave A

but under the head theres a 0.5mm taper from the shank of the bolt.

and then theres the 4 stage torquing sequence....

csweatherston

teres a very important sequence to follow when fitting ARP's. the bearing caps need drilling and countersinking as well. not a direct fit.

best i get some arp bolts ordered then picked up a new exhaust manifold for it today should help things a bit i'll get it dyno'd after i have fitted the bolts it'll be nice to see how little power it's got

i drove mine for a little while without the apr's but i would advice you to get sbd rollers and arp rod bolts. its £100 that could save your engine from falling into pieces.

some people on here have had there rev limit raised for ages and run on standard pulleys and con rod bolts.

oright didnt nw u had a manztel ect..

Id be very carefull as jake says as if the belt and vernier pulleys go at high revs ur fucked!

Jake

the limiter on a standard 14xe is something like 6200/6500 this is why he's asking if it is safe to rev to 7200.

you have to think of cambelt rollers as these can fail with a higher rev range

cheers Danny cool when i take out tomorrow for a blast i can see how much difference the manztel and chip change has really done as i an't been reving past 6500(old rev limit) just in case i killed it

DaNnY_LaD

posted on 26th Dec 06 at 16:14

yeah its safe as the limiter is there for a reason..

But only do it when its warm/Hot and you can only do it every so ofton as it will fuck it up if u do it all the time..
