Mine seems to do that, especially when it's cold and raining - I'm getting it checked sometime after Christmas before I start Uni again. It hopefully won't be anything major.

Just out of curiosity, how much are new ICV's?

They can just get sticky sometimes, it's possible if you remove it, give it a good oiling and gently push it back into the housing, it'll cure it.

If you do that, when you refit it, start the car, revs will go sky high for a few seconds, then as it resets will come down to normal idle.

That's just one possibility though, other people may have a different idea.

Yeah its an SPI engine (C14NZ). was thinking the ICV maybe, but wouldnt the idle be bad all the time rather than only when cold and only for a few seconds?

Could be the idle control valve (located on the front of the throttle body, has a wiring connector going into it).

Try removing and cleaning it, or replacing it altogether.

I'm assuming its a single point injection engine btw.

Looking for alittle advice with an idling problem my 1.4 8v has started getting. A couple of weeks ago it started running fairly bad when cold, would be very rough and lumpy and idle at around 750rpm (warm idle) even when cold. It would go back to be perfect once it has warmed up but it was just bad when cold. I ran some engine cleaner though it to see if it would help and it seems to have alittle, but its still not running right when cold.

Now its only doing it when idle. When i was out in it tonight it was running ok when when cold, but when coming up to say, traffic lights and pushing the clutch in, the rpm would drop to around 500rpm for a few seconds, before picking back up to about 1k. Its wasnt stalling at all but almost seeming like it was going to. It was running fine when driving and the idle problem went away once warmed up, but im slightly concerned its a small problem that become a larger one. Any ideas as to when it only drops for a few seconds like that? Thanks.
