fit it in seperate bits. first the cat, then the centre section then the backbox. keep each joint loose so you can move them about and once they line up tighten them all up.

and use a new gasket

cheers for the help, yup Dave thats the bit I meant, I worked out the problem last night, because the system was fitted to another corsa (which was rolled the same day) the downpipe appears bent, as though the whole system has been pulled back, the 2 surfaces dont mate up squarely..:boggle:

cheers

Hey poot i kno wat ur on about i had exactly the same problem with mine, connecting the downpipe to the cat? The flages were welded at the wrong angle so sent it back and got another, it still blows a little but nothin drastic, if you are on about the cast iron manifold connecting to the downpipe try a new seal but as far as im aware there are no springs connecting the downpipe and manifold, just springs connectin the downpipe and cat, hope this of help to you:thumbs:

so the downpipe to the centre section you mean;)

you must use a new gasket there as its a round wire mesh one that gets crush-fit.

But there are only 2 holes for the bolts to go through, one either side of the pipe :boggle: these are spring loaded also

help :look:

no such thing as fairly new, its either new or feckered.

use a new gasket and the right amount of bolts and it should be fine. also smear exhaust paste on the gasket faces.

think he said he used a "fairly new gasket"

there should be 3 bolts from manifold to downpipe. did you use new gaskets?

Changed over my whole exhaust system tonight, fitted a whole new standard system from the manifold down.

It came off a '97 P reg, and i've put it on my '98 R reg, but even with the 2 bolts that hold the downpipe to the manifold, and a fairly new gasket, its blowing like fcuk??

confused :boggle:
