there is a lot easyer way put a ratchet on the pully bolt and put the ratchet againest the engine mount and turn the key (do not start the car thou) i think the socket is an e18

Might attempt the heat gun on it witht he bar

yup i find somone on the brakes help or car in gear, tyres on the floor and hanbrake on and wheels chocked,
i normally heat it up with a blow torch every time now, comes off no bother

big breaker bar on the bolt

car in gear, up on stands with someone holding the brakes on. that usually works for me.

a decent bar will be fine, mine was undone with one, wedged in the ground...

You're better off taking it to a garage to have it undone mate. I broke a breakers bar on it trying to undo mine. Got a free replacement one though :cool:

The socket I have is too small for my bar (I found it)

Going to have to buy a new one tommorrow & try again :(

with out the correct tools sometimes this sort of job is a cnut. what about a torque wrench, you got one of them matt? i use mine as a braker bar from time to time.

or do it my way if the cambelt is still on the cam pulley :|

the bottom pulley need sto come off to change the cam belt and as the water pump is driven by the cam belt you need to do it first

have you put the car in gear and got someone to put there foot on the brakes??

wedge the pulley with a screwdriver or the proper locking tool then undo the nut.have you tryed shocking the nut (put the bar/socket and give is a almighty pull push) or have you tried tighting it up as some times tighting it up then undoing it sometimes breaks it free


edit the other way isto take the starter motor out and wedge the flywheel

but you say you can't get the rear cambelt cover off without, and cant get to the water pump/ thermostat housing with the rear cover on...

its got to come off really.

Can't even get to the pulley because of a cover. Can't get the cover off without taking the crank pulley off

Just read up on them & they sound an utter cunt to get off

Nowhere in that thread was there mention about a cunting bolt :|

So am I going wrong here in thinking it needs to be removed? Or has someone just failed to mention it?

According to Haynes I remove the lower cover & place in a screwdriver or locking pin to stop it from moving....



But I can't take the cover off because the crank pulley is in the way :|

Its just turning & turning, there isn't much room down there either so I can't really look around that much!
