swap the xe sump for a 20ltr 8v sump as it is steel and won't ever crack and the 8v gasket is a damn sight easier to fit than the xe 1 hth

check ebay for 20xe sumps, same parts as vaux but dead cheap.

if its a risk now it will be a greater risk when you are running, take your time and advantage of the fact that the engine is out of the car now and you can do things like remove it, clean it properly, put a new one on and let it set for 24 hours without leaving your car in the garage!

Just about to start a 2.0 conversion on the old Corsa and when replacing the sump gasket noticed that there is about an inch and a half hairline crack in the sump itself. I know that C20XE sumps are notoriously crap and it doesnt seem like the crack has been leaking oil but just wondering if anyone has had any experiences of cracks like this causing problems? Im happy to to leave it as it is if its not likely to cause a problem & dont fancy paying couple of hundred to be ripped off by vauxhall. Cheers.
