is it definately engine oil?

I had a lad bring me his car once for a crank oil seal (corsa) and I was about to remove the g.box etc... when I noticed that it was actually coming from the speedo sender hole and dripping down. it looked like black engine oil but it was actually gearbox oil. oil usually drips down here because its the lowest point on the engine.

depends which end. there is a crank oilseal at the timing belt and gearbox end.

if its the g.box end, remove the box and flywheel and its easy from there.
