the maf works out the air flow it to the engine this tells the ecu how much fuel to mix with the air at different throttle positions and diferent rpm's a nackerd maf may cause under fueling or overfueling

i think thats right hay but what do i know

so it can only be MAF causing overfuelling, or 02 sensor fucked or leak in intake manifold sumwhere!

what condition is the exhaust in are there any baffles in the centre box tap it with hammer if it sounds tinnie then baffles are dead if it sounds like its solid then baffles are present

I would take the car to vauxhall dont mention the other garage just tell em you want it MOT ing best bet is to ring them up and book the mot cos vaux dont always do on the day mot`s

as for emissions all they need to do at an mot station is check your car over then put another car onto the emissions machine but use your cars details

yeah probably going to vauxhall would be a good idea. thing is, the car has no tax, mot or insurance... would someone from vauxhall come and pick the car up? :boggle:

okay i decided to get my corsa sorted out (its been sitting around doing nothing for nearly two years!)

there was a breathing problem with the car... £80 later and thats done

so on to the MOT, now i knew there was a problem with the cat, and thats why it failed the mot the first time. originally the exhaust fumes were TEN TIMES the amount that was meant to be coming out! he put on a brand new cat... and it took it down, but still well well over the limit. the cars been at the garage for three weeks now and he cant figure out what the problem is :o

i know hes not screwing me over btw hes a friend of the family... and hes not doing it on an hourly rate for me :)

hes phoned up vauxhall and even they dont have a clue. he has a new diag machine coming in the next two weeks so said hes gonna hold on for that and see if he can work it out then...

but basically hes put it to me that if he cant get it throught the mot then the cars gonna basically be written off aint it! he said a new engine would just make the problem worse!?

anyway just wanna know any of you guys heard of anything like this or have a clue what the problem could be? cheers for reading
