Vaux advised me to use 10W40 Semi-synthetic in my 1.6 Sport, and their oil is cheaper than halfords.

Do you do lot's of short journey's where the car doesn't get a chance to fully warm up? Or are driving quite far?

I use the 5w as I mainly do short trip's. Check the owner's manual and see what it say's.

so 5w/40 or 10w/40 then?

£15-£25 - Bear in mind that most oil's are rebranded. For example Halford's oil is Comma.

I use Shell Helix 5w 40 fully synthetic in my car, cost's me £24 from Motor Factors's.

I used Haldford's 10w 40 fully synthetic when I had my 1.4 Sport.

Personally im not impressed with the vaux oil, its a very basic spec and overly priced for what it is. I will only use millers oils in my own cars and customers. I would use a fully synthetic 10w40.
