coolant temperature sensor

today, on my way to work, it has been ticking over at just under a 1000 RPM. The car kicks in first time when i start it. However, when i start it, it goes straight up to 2000 RPM.

By the way, what does CTS stand for?

agree with that. mine was overfueling and had an irrational idle when cold, didnt even throw up a code. 12 quid later jobs a good'un.

Doesn't so much do my head in, and fuel economy is still good... i just like engines to run smooth and as they should do, i'll order a new cts and get my spare icv on, see what happens.

I forgot to mention that i had the engine checked over a while ago. They used a tech 1 & 2 and said the ICV was working correctly. However the engine didn't kick in a the time. Dodgy crank sensor.

Don't over look the ICV. Cleaned it on my mums vectra, no better off, fitted a newer 2nd hand one, cleaned it no better. Finally cured the prob when i fitted a brand new one from ebay for £40 (or there abouts.) Idles perfect now. Cleaning dose'nt always work, even though it looks clean.

cts very rarely throws up a code

Starkie, if it was the coolant temp sensor, wouldn't that affect it when it is warm and wouldn't the ECU light be on all the time. Mine only comes on occassionally. It does my head in. If it is not one thing it is another. Also got a noise coming from somewhere at the front. Sounds like it is a wheel bearing, but they are brand spanking new.

my xe has a rough idle, i've grown to like it... i blame my icv or an air leak somewhere. It won't idle when cold, and sounds like an american muscle car on idle when warm

coolant temp sensor

I know this has been discussed quite alot. However, my car does not always tick over at a constant RPM. Some times it ticks over at about 500 RPM then it goes between 1500 and 2000, then it can tick over at 1700. Some times if i am lucky it will tick over at just 1000 rpm.

I have taken the ICV off and cleaned it with WD40 and then put some 3 in 1 oil in. ( it was sticking before i did this)

I have checked all the pipes around the inlet and they all seem to be fine and no bubbles when i spray WD40 on the pipes. It doesn't make a difference if the car is hot or warm.

It has a new Lamba sensor.

The cam belt is new and setup correctly, but it might be too tight. Could that be the problem?

The engine management light comes on occassionally but goes off straight away.
Any body got any ideas? :boggle:
