Common problems on these engines are AFM or ICV, well the ICV is more like a motor device thing on these engines, mine packed up, was revving funny and the engine started cutting out.

For 45quid i'd hazard a guess its the ICV, also the butterfly on the throttle sometimes gets jammed or wont close properly, give it a good clean, if no good try the ICV.

Is you EML on or not?

Well gave up and put the bloody thing back as was :( (after 6 hours of trying )
Only problem left to sort out as well as this , is why car idles at 1800rpm , have tried ICV adjustment and its spot on for first 30secs , then idle goes up to 1800 and will never drop below that :(
Would this be likely to be the ICV or the MAFF ?

At the end of the day if its the top bolt you cant get out then you will have to remove items that are getting in the way or get some different tools.

you may have to use a ring spaner on the top bolt to get it off if you havent got an ext bar the right size to reach across the top of the starter motor.

is a special tool required to get out the top bolt on the starter motor ? this thing is driving me up the wall - haynes manual reckons its one of the easiest things to change

how the F*** do you get the starter motor off on this car
Just cant get anything on the top bolt - haynes says remove inlet manifold bracket which i've done
Do you have to remove the alternator to get the bloody thing out ??:o
