mine turns on and off with out the ignition being on... not sure how its wired up tho, my last one did it and was hard wired in, i didnt fit this one so im not sure how it is...

Either way its damn dangerous as i didnt use my car last week and came out friday night to move my car to find the cd player had been on playing a cd non stop for 5 days straight.. the battery was dead. :)

I woudlnt recommend using HU without the engine running if you have an amp  - it will drain the battery in no time

Make that white wire happen and you've done it.

^ but you can only turn on the headunit when the ignition live is 'live' this only happens when the key is in the ignition.

If you want to be able to switch the headunit on without the key in the ignition, then i suggest you connect the ignition wire to a perminant power feed from the battery (fused of course).

Or simply connect both yellow/red wires to the perminent feed in the stereo iso block..

I thought the red and the yellows were switched for this.. ?

One being positive, one being ignition

You need to wire Ignition Power and Permanent power on your stereo to permanent/battery backup on car.
