isnt the speedo cable driven from the gearbox? or am I thinking of the rev counter?

Either way check theres no loose cables at the back, may of fallen out.

when you took it off, did you lift the needle over the pin and let the spring settle to its natural position, then mark where the dial was?
i think thats the proper way to do it to enable getting the needle back into the right place

i lined up the point of the needle with the bottom of the 0 line then pushed it on, make sure it levels out at zero after a tiny creep forward, shouldnt be to far out then, not sure whats the right way to do it?? would also like to know, mines hardly noticeable tho
