Well just to complete this thread ....

Got my car sorted today. The idle control value had two voltage issues which were found during the computer test.

Total cost to do Tech2 test, install a breand new Idle control valve, and reset ECU = £187 (James and Jenkins, Cardiff)

Well, it seems to be running very nicely now. I think I've had a problem for months. Infact 4 months ago I went to them with odd idling and rpm issues, but they couldn't/didn't do much as the ECU wasn't throwing up any errors...yet.

I'll give them a call and see how much they cost.

Not too sure where else I could get the part from though, any online links ?

You cant do the paperclip test on yours as its a different system like mine....later ones dont allow the paper-clip test i believe.....

I just ad the same problem as you, was the idle control valve thing (think it has another name similar) that sits to the left of the throttle body, about 12-14inches to right of your air flow meter, actually bolted on the throttle housing itself.

I plugged mine in today (read my other post on here) the fault was the idle vavle, fitted a new one, cleared the faults and its fine now.

I'm 99.9% certain your prob is like mine, intermittent engine management light, around the same revs as well...........almost certain to be the idle valve.

I'd take it to another dealer, as diagnostics at vaux wont be cheap. If you do go there tho, dont get the part from them, i wouldn't pay anymore than 50quid for an idle valve brand new.

You might need vaux to clear your faults tho, on my old car it was a case of disconnecting the battery for 15mins and away i went. not sure about these newer systems.

I had a look at the socket, but the 'pins' in the socket are in different places. Guessing it's cos it's after the 1999 dealine.

Looking around the forum I can see my problem identically matches others

eg . http://www.corsasport.co.uk/board/viewthread.php?tid=94370

So I guess i'd better get down Vauxhall for them to (try to) sort it

Ok so it's about time I learnt what the hell people were on about when they kept mentioning the paperclip test ....I'll have a search about to get up to speed.

I've a W reg Sxi. Since Sunday my engine management light has been coming on for 30 seconds or so and then going. It is happening quite often.
The car feels a bit lumpy and juddery, not a smooth ride.

When stationary I revved the car to about 2500rpm, it didn't come back down but sat (wobbling a bit) at about 1500rpm and the management light came on at the same time. Taking it up to 2500 again would sometimes allow it to drop back down to it's 'normal' value (which in itself is a little high). But this weird effect is pretty repeatable.

Anyone know what this problem could be? Or must I get down Vauxhall ?

Thanks
