No, reticulated foam allows for greater dirt retention as it's multi-laminated.

Cotton-gauze is single layer, so once that's clogged, you're choking the engine.

Pipercross and other similar foam filters use their multiple layers to last longer meaning you don't get any drop in airflow.

Joff.....Why do piperX filters last upto 30k miles between cleaning...is it because it allows more dirt to enter the engine and less gets traped on the filter?

get a pipercross XL cone in my opinion, really nice tone and hasent affected the performance/running/idling of my car, which are some problems associated with certain induction kits

An induction kit gives your car a nice sporty sound on acceleration and the car will rev easier making it better to drive if you often drive the car hard.
The 1.4 engine won't really benefit from any major power gains, so if you don't expect any you won't be dissapointed.
Remember the engine's not going to be expecting all the extra air you're taking in, so you'd be wise to disconnect the battery to force the ECU back into any learning mode it might have.

Fitting a panel filter alone won't change the noise. You have to butcher your airbox for that and the sound still won't be anything like an induction kit.

Fit a K&N or other cotton gauze filter and you'll need to clean it as often as you'd replace a paper filter.
Fit a Pipercross filter and you can expect it to last up to 30,000 miles before it needs cleaning - three times longer than a cotton-gauze filter.

I wouldn`t recommend fitting an induction kit, you`d be better off fitting a K&N panel filter instead

looking to get an induction kit on my 1.4 16v sport

like to hear any1s opinion on their choices.
