no need just drop the engine to the floor then lift the car body with the crane MAKE SURE YOU CHOCK THE BACK WHEELS FIRST!:o

Yeah drop it but you may as well take out the tie bars as they'er not too difficult

Either way if you still have the head & such connected, you just need to raise the car a little higher than that!

But I'd remove both inlet & exhaust manifolds, it just makes it easier if your leaving the head on!

mmm thinking aloud... I'll have a few things still connected to my engine before I remove it unlike yours Paul

dont try bringing it outa the top by itself without a gearbox attached either, it'll send you nuts

Get car on stands
Unbolt, chainsaw angle grind or otherwise remove engine, supporting its weight on a crane
Lower engine/gearbox to floor
lift car even higher up with engine crane
slide engine out

p.s the car will be stupidly high off the floor at the front... don't worry

(pretty much as per haynes )

cant u just lower the engine onto the floor with the engine crane and then lift the front of the car up and drag the engine out...

the bloke who fitted my engine took it out of the top :S but he had to take the bonnet and everything in the way off

any advice for someone doing it for the first time? I've pretty much got most stuff that the haynes manual asks for. Just thinking how am going to move the thing from under the car, may have a flat trolly knocking about.

dudes,

Haynes manual says remove the engine still connected to the gear box from under the car.

I'm now lucky enough to have an engine crane knocking about, so how hard is it to remove the engine (connected to the gearbox) from the top of the car?

Suggestions/Advice always welcome.

Cheers,

Willay
