i removed some rust on my tail gate, sand it back to bare metal, get rid of every spec of rust, then use a rust treatment on it, sand that smooth and prime it, then u have to paint it like normal.

can gets loads of rust treatments, and rust preventing primers too

well why ask the question yet, you can grind it back to metal, and al sorts of sealing ect.

but once its started you'l almost never get rid of that annoying ferris oxide

step buy step guide for a sure fire way to get rid of rust.

1 - remove pannel with rust on,
2- replace with new pannel
3- paint to match
