v-tuning quoted me around £1000 (estimate) for a full rebuild a few months ago, it included everything being replaced from top to bottom and uprating were needed to accompany power mods in future... | |

To clean tyhe heads of the valves, just get a drill bit brush and strap the drill down, or fit it to the bench grinder and then clean off the heads to get the cr*p off. | |

I've done 5 top end rebuilds on these now. It's cheaper to buy a complete X16XE and stick the inlet and exhaust on it than rebuild and the hassle of running in too. | |

From my experience always expect the worse and budget for it, my engine re-build cost nearly twice what i thought it would!!!!! | |

the 16v vaux lumps are easier to rebuild than most people would have you think... for me anyway :lol: | |

buy a haynes everything you need to know is in there... if you cant do it after reading that leave it to someone who can... | |

i gave mine a top head overhall a while back, if thats anyhelp, engine had done 130k, changed a few rockers and cleaned the tappets as well as fitting a new head gasket | |

just want to know whos had engine rebuilds, in particular the 1.6 16v, but any will do! |
