haynes manual doesnt contain fault code help, and they dont tell u how to remove it permanantly as your not meant to...

Right had the error code read from break down yesterday, it was

Code 47 - EGR valve position unreadable

anyone know what could cause this? My mechanic is unsure if the idle speed control valve is at fault and so didnt do anything, wants me to run it and see if it happens again.

Also if the EGR system is at fault does anyone know how to go about REMOVING it entirely...
