You can get a bowyer inlet from eurorallye for £110.
As said you can't use a dizzy set up, (unless you have your own lathe and some other bits) You'd need to get a ign ecu set up, if you're on the cheap then mega jolt offers good value for money around £100 made. Once carbs are tuned then they don't ned touching very often, but you'll not really see anythign above 30mpg with them, more in the 25mpg region.
You'd also be wise to flow the head, put a tubular manifold on, and while the heads off, pocket the pistons by 2mm and then run 285deg 11mm lift cams in there, and you'd be looking at the sharp end of 140-150BHP then. That's about the sensible limit you can go to, then you'd need forged pistons etc.. after this and it's just expensive.

Also, you can swipe the ignition system from an 8v Vauxhall engine which used carbs. As far as I know, the price for an inlet manifold is in the region of £175 brand new. You would propbably be able to get a second hand one for less.

Your better off running the car on throttle bodies with fuel injection. The carbs need setting up and are a bit of a pain to keep in tune. Saying that though, you will see decent power gains from the carbs and if the car isn't going o be used as an every day car then you shouldn't have too many issues where the fucker doesn't want to start, or wont run properly so you have to adjust the mixture screws :(

no, its an old GTV,

i'll be able to get someone to help set it up at college for free

i can keep standard fuel pump, but will need a regulator. or might be cheeper to get the fuel pump. hmmm

also are dollerto's any good? because some people say they are, and some say to stay away. also i think 45's may be too big for the 1400.

i'll see if i can fine some 40's

A newer alfa wth carbs? Seems odd.

Also youll need a distributor/coil etc and lots of cash to get it all setup. Plus lots of other bits youll need, new fuel pump etc etc.

carbs or injection?

the engine is out of the car, and i will have some money coming in january. :D

i can get some dolertto carbs for £100 (they are off an Alfa GTV, so i'm guessing they will be 45's?)

i will need manifold, where can i get one from? i'm estimating that they will be approx £100-ish new?
and linkages which are about £40

if i convert to carbs, this means i wont need the ECU? right? just need to connect up revs, speedo, temp etc.

is it worth the money for the power increase? i was talking to pro-tec who say that the 1400 and 1600 16v work well on carbs.

cheers
