Fcuk me!

I got a replacement tank from a local scrappies from a 97 corsa, complete with pump and level sensor for £10  Its pretty mint as well, 5 mins with a tin of underseal and it will easily out last the car.

Was offered a new one for £65 from a local partco.

Fitted it myself as well, its quite easy once you've got the back of the car on axle stands. Draining the petrol out of the old tank was the bit that took me the longest, I took a live from the ignition to the fuel pump, took the pipe of the fuel filter and dipped it in a petrol can, and waited. About 3 minutes a can. Then had to empty it into mothers car and repeat 6 times!

People have been drilling their airboxes for years, surely drilling induction kits is the next logical step? I'm going to drill everything in sight - the induction kit, my exhaust...

yeah why does the pump sometimes do that when I'm filling up? Its so annoying when it clicks off and you have to press it again.

funnily enough, a common ish prob with a few vauxes, water can gather on top of the tank, or moisture at least and some tanks are known to rust just enough to allow petrol to seep through, fine if its half full, but not if its full! i have had this with 2 carltons now, 1 a 87 plate, (in the pic) and on a 1993 one just my 2 p's worth

I guess it hisses because there is a pressure build up in the tank?

To get that there must be a problem with the breathers?

Girlfriends Corsa Sri has been smelling of petrol recently with no signs of a leak.

However today after she filled it up it was visibly dripping off the bottom of the petrol tank.

I've been under to have a look, and its coming from somewhere along above the seam along the edge of the tank, I cant see where though, I'll tackle it with a mirror tomorrow to see if I can get a better look.

There are a few pipes there but they look fine.

The tank does also look pretty rusty, so I wouldn't be suprised if it had rusted through.

Its really annoying to fill up as well, always clicks off at the pump, any ideas if that could be related or how to try and solve it?

Any other thoughts?

The car is at my mums not here. Apparently there was some on the floor this morning. I think the smell may have gone. You think it has just lost pressure, leaked a bit and settled now?

Could I drill a "vent" hole in my fuel tank to stop this airlock? Answer soon because I'm prepping the Black and Decker right now!

So if I hold a naked flame to the petrol cap when I open it.. this would be bad?

broster

tis just an air lock, petrol can leak out when it does this, if you undo the lid a bit of petrol will spit out and all will be good.

Joff

So normally, what does the hissing mean?

just try undoing the filler cap, and if it hisses thats your problem solved

I filled the tank yesterday and haven't used the car since and there's now a strong smell of petrol from it. I assume its to do with the filler neck, has anyone had this before and found any perished seals etc?

I'm stripping it down tomorrow but if anyone knows if there's anywhere I should concentrate I'd be grateful.
