Tried the engine cranking thing before with no joy.

These are always a cunt.

If all else fails grinding the head off works well :)

I would have thought a m6 bolt would snap well before it undoes.

The 5th gear and brake thing is my prefered method.

get a breaker bar onto the nut and crank the engine, tis always the best way to undo them :D

You wanna try it that way in the future, always works....

the other way is lock it with mole grips so the grips rest on the roll bar or something. but as myke said u dont need it off

Quoted from Oddball on MIg:

re locking the crank, you'll be rolling the block all over the floor trying to undo that bolt, however you fix the crank !!

favourite methods are reversing a clutch cover bolt to the block side of the flywheel, so that it rests on the flat of the block, stops the fly rotating. or just stick a sturdy block of wood between the crank counter weight and the edge of the block.

the way I did mine was to shove a lump of wood into the crankshaft to lock it all up, then get the longest wedgy bar and give it some!

don't think you're supposed to use a torque wrench in reverse anyway, but hitting it with a hammer is a sure fire way to wreck the calibration of it.

you need to reverse one of the bolts through the gearbox onto the engine or something, to lock off the flywheel.
not entirely sure which, but there's info on mig if you do a search.

right i thought of a way, get a metal bar, drill 2 holes in it big enough to take the bolts that you have already taken out, bolt the metal bar to the pulley so the end of it rests on the floor preventing it from turning then undo the start drive bolt, only thing is if it slips the engine will spin a few revolutions

i used an iron pole & ratchet to get mine off, was an ass to remove tho, but worked in the end.

i also removed the plastic inner-arches for more room to play.
