Er, if you have rusty patches under the paint then you have to repair that, you must sand the rust off and then fill it over, then paint... You can't just put a new rub strip on and hope it will go away :o

if u get the post 97 ones, they are thicker plastic tho and the paints ok on them?

You can't paint the strips - they're rubber and it'll crack as soon as anything touches it.

They're not mega money, phone your dealer. You'll either need to replace the ones you took off to hide the paint problems or paint the panels. Don't take half off and leave half on.

yeah same colour as your car dude, try vauxhall for availability, scrappies no good as they're knackered once taken off.

good idea.any tips on the colour i should paint the new side strips? and are these easy to get?

save yourself some £££ mate and buy some new bump strips, have em painted and fit them.

Had a go at removing the side strips today.Started on the passenger side on the strip nearest to the boot.Heated it up using a propa heat gun then started to remove the strip.All went well and it came straight off.I thought great, i bet the rest is like this.But no, started heating and removing the strip on the door and at first it looked ok, paint underneath etc.But then the paint started to peel of showing a rusty brown colour and a defected curve in the paint which when run your hand over is sharp and is metal.

I know the only way to get round this problem is to sand down the metal and re-spray.But what about just removing the strips nearest to the boot? they seam to come off ok and dont leave any defects
