lol i was going to add something along those lines joff until i read yours  The fact that the air-con is sapping engine power in the first place means that you cannot regain or increase power by tracking through the mainfold. Would have to be 100% efficient, and there is no such thing in the real world  the most efficient objects are step-down transformers used on national power grids. these are like 95% efficient. the %% is lost through radiation, sound, heat etc etc

It's a similar idea to the electric supercharger that runs off of the alternator... Just won't work, unless you can do the physically impossible and make everything runn 100% effecient

you do sometimes Ian, but not when it comes to engine power!

aircon saps power from the engine, but theoretically if it was set up right you could regain the lost power! waste of time tho really.

maybe a seperate aircon system running off a battery?

any benifit gained due to colder denser air would be cancelled out by the drag of the aircon compressor i'm afraid.
notice how your mpg drops when using aircon, or the engine labours more at tickover with the aircon running.

Interesting idea. Would give more of a benefit on a turbo'd car.

I assume it wouldn't be able to flow nearly enough air, else that sort of system would be used on turbo's.

Interesting thought though.

was in my mates golf the other day.. jus cruising with the Air-con on.. and my mate thought of a idea :o

what if he could put a pipe of one of the Air-con outlets goin into the engine bay, either directly into the airbox or as a cold air feed??:lol:

i told him to shut up and dont be so stupid! but would happen if he did do this? would their be any gains of any kind?
