It's a common Corsa C problem. I've changed it as well in my Opel Corsa C 1.4 Sport (it's the SXi). The thing is that this "piece" is plastic and not metal like in Astras. Opel changes it for free, if any Corsa owner complains about this. Tell them to change it, there is an official guideline, i think it's free of charge for Vauxhall too.

my car isn't going in 1st or 2nd properly and without me fighting the car to get it in gear (moving and stood still) and the gear stick has quite a bit of exesive movement in it when in gear.

been to vaux today n pointed the problem out n showed them the top guide control for the gears (situated behind the engine) showed them the exesive movement n they said it "might" be the problem.

just wondering if anyone else has had this problem, if so what was the problem?

cheers for any help :)
