try the water pump, mine was leaking round there for ages, could trace the leak until one day it just got worse and i saw it pissing out of it as i topped it up.

i have a similar problem mate, a couple of weeks ago i started loosin coolant, had a look and it was leaking, not from the radiator tho (nearer the back of the engine bay) just near the engine, so i put some radweld through and it stopped for a couple of weeks, then i noticed temp risin so i looked and water bottle was empty so i topped up and.....it was leaking again!!!! so i put some more radweld through....then today i noticed it was pissin out again, so ive booked it in at a garage, i posted before and u lot said it was most likely to be water pump or split hose, lets hope its cheap coz im fukin skint!!!!

quote: haven't been able to check for leaks yet though so can't write that off and the water has lasted for a month or so and a fair bit of driving so got a feeling there won't be a leak [Edited on 19-06-2004 by nik]

quote: Yeah thats what I thought :( I'll do a 50/50 mix and see if it drops after a day or two with of course checking for leaks under the car and from rad etc

water will actually keep the car cooler than runing a 50/50 mix. the coolent increases the boiling point and lubricates the inside. you must have a leak. fill it up with a 50/50 mix and ru the engine look underneath for a leak. the K-Series does have a history of headgaskets going though

Its a pressurised system, it shouldn't go anywhere unless you have a leak from the rad, pipe etc...

possibly just a coolant leak , split pipe etc.. , or even cooked the rad and it split maybe, i was having to top up 3 times a day when i split my radiator :(

My gf's MGF ran out of water about a month ago so she stopped right away and topped it back up to the required amount but with no antifreeze/coolant etc last night it ran out again so again we topped it up (although a little too much water - hard to see in dark!) does this sound like there is a problem with it using too much water or is a due to not adding coolant etc? will this have caused damage and shall I just top it up with coolant asap? cheers :) p.s I'm no mechanic  |
