If a water pump fails it would usually be the bearings so you would tend to get a rumbling or squeaking noise rather than ticking. It's also usually accompanied by weeping of coolant from the pump area. | |

normally when a water pump goes it pisses coolent everywhere | |

THere is a slight rubbing and ticking noise coming from the timing belt area so i have been told it is the water pump on its way out. |
