My 1.2 8v has the same problem!

where you find this..... "wynns hydraulic valve lifter treatment"

There's specific tappet cleaner, but the best way is to remove them and de-pressurise them clean them and stick them back in. maybe worth doing a cambelt swap at the same time.
I wouldn't like to leave traces of engin eflush in my engine personally.

before you change the oil get some decent engine flush and rag the car for a while with that in,

then while its very hot change for the mineral, run it for a while and then engine flush it again, then put the semi back in,

try that first its a lot cheaper than getting all that work done.

*wurth is very good engine flush

do an oil change and fill it up with some vauxhall mineral oil, run that for a day or two then change the oil again for some 15/40 semi synth, usually works nicely as the mineral helps to clean out crap

i replaced mine, its amazing how quiet a GSI engine is when new, could take em out and soak them in oil for a week thats some times works

Its probably worn or dirty lifters. If you take them out they can be cleaned with some parafin. Or they are about £6 each new i think.

They should get quieter when the engine is warm and when the car is reved as the oil gets thinner and the pressure increases when reved.

I've noticed my tappets making a wee bit of noise recently at higher revs, am I right in assuming they're hydraulic tappets? And to get them adjusted costs mucho £££'s ?? :boggle:
