nice one gents i shall try my best to follow some of your points!

Wolf in Welsh clothing - ur theory regarding the manifold sounds very very probable as I also have no ECU which would point to new management that was controlling the performance inlet manifold!

Well I have everything I need now to start the car bar the now dead ECU which is being tested 2moz!

Thanks all :D

The thick pipe by the header tank goes onto the MAP sensor(as Paul W said).
The thin pipe coming from by there goes onto the valve on the wing (sencondary air injection system), then the other thin pipe from the exhaust thingy goes to the side of the valve (looks as though the connector has been snapped off though so you might need a new one).
The final pic (the box with the wire connecter to it)

is a fuel tank vent valve and the open pipe should go onto a connector/barb the inlet manifold with the other 2 thick black pipes.
In the 1st pic i can also see the crank shaft sensor isn't connected (3pin plug above the fuel pressure regulator), the connector shouldn't be far away from the map sensor connector.
Also looks like your fuel pressure regulator vacuum pipe might not be connected as its meant to be routed a different way onto the inlet manifold.
The thin water pipe from the header tank normally goes around the other side of the cap and should hopefully be connected to one side of the throttle body.

Looks to me like someones had an inlet manifold on, taken it off to sell it but not put everything back right.

i know where 99% of them go but cant describe it :(
i aint driving to shropshire to fit a few pipe :(

in this pic there is a black box with a red wire connector the pipe thats comming of it should connect to there a round thing under that wiring plug nect to the bolt that goes into ther inlet manifold theres a small pipe comming off it you need to connect em

and that wiring plug that has no connection on it that is the cas sensor there utterly has to be a wiring connector somwhere that fits that or itll never start

and yes paul w is correct in saying that pipe goes onto the map sensor

and the other two i suspect are for the egr shite and i have no idea bout that

unless i had the car,which i havent

how long u had the car, any repairs done to the engine while u had it?

looks like a x16XE engine, its very similar to the gsi c16XE engine which has a few less electronic bits in comparison
