The king is back

I'm sure the V12's have thermal protection to switch them off if they get that bad though dont they?

if its an alpine V12 and its blowing fuses its probably a MOSFET supply issue.

Is it still in warranty? where did you buy it from?

Sounds like it is either blown or the thermal protection kicked in, but this should simply switch off the amp

Where have you got the amp mounted? is there plenty of air available for it to cool down? Do you have any fans blowing on it?

hmmm if the smojke was out the amp it might well be, do as they say, replace fuse to 30A and check all power/earth wire down its full length for any breaks in the plastic sheath.

If its deffo ok give it another try and see wat happens.

take the 50amp fuse out!! if you've only got a 30amp fuse in the amp, then the fuse under the bonnet MUST be 30amps as well.

if it blows again, you've got a wiring problem.

Do not leave the 50a fuse in, take it out. then check wiring asap.

its hard to say if your amp is dead, the smell could be from a bare wire short circuiting on the bulkhead or engine block etc

hence why i suggested you check these areas......;)

question i wana know is
my amp dead?

30amp in the amp
50amp under the bonnet now.
wil need mate to check it again.

aye mate, if it blows more than 1 fuse within a short period of time, its time to check all of the wiring to your amp.

AND NEVER REPLACE THE FUSE WITH A BIGGER FUSE !!!

the fuse you need should equal that of all of the amps connected to the power cable - ie: if you have two amps, with one rated at 40A and the other 30A, then you will need a fuse of 70A on the power cable (not any higher).

but like CD says, the most common cause is frayed cable touching the bodywork, causing a short circuit and blowing fuses. Check every inch of the power cable and earth cable, and buzz it out using a DVM and see if its shorting with the body work mate :)

What wire were you fusing? the one straight to your amp?

Icy

was normal 30amp ones before
mate sed i needed bigger so got new fuse box to hold 50amp in.

you blew 5 fuses?

when a fuse blows, ok, you might just replace it straight away because it could have happened due to some strange annomoly, but if it then blows again, you know you have a problem.

Dont just keep replacing fuses, there is a problem!

Could be many things

You say the fuse under your bonnet blew?

Have you checked the wire that fuse is on for any breaks in the rubber surround? Especially where it come in contact with engine parts (which are all earthed) and where it goes through the bulk head.

If at either of these places the wire is bare, it will short out and blow the fuse (hey presto, the fuse saves your wires melting or catching on fire)

When a fuse blows once, you may have a problem
If you replace it and it blows again, you do have a problem

(unless of course you're using the wrong rating fuse)
