cobra is dead right, they are no where near as bright, I did make a lovely dash with LED backlighting, and then one with CCFL (neon) lighting, they all worked great, but the easiest way is to use the standard halogen bulbs, if its gone that dim then try stripping the dash, and cleaning and re polishing the edges of the backlighting blocks, these get melted and rough over time and the amount of heat that they are exposed to, rejuvinating them is like more light for free

the lamps were £5.64 each last tie I bought any

If its the dash from a Mk2 GTE you will have two halogen bulbs for the main illumination. They were in excess of £5 each last time I bought some which was a while ago. I doubt you would find coloured bulbs to fit, even if you do, don't even think of fitting coloured bulbs in it, it won't work.

there's 3 bulbs, 2 larger ones (one behing the oil etc guages and one behing the rev counter) there's also a smaller one behing the speedo

the dash should dim when you have your side lights on, new bulbs arn't much from Vaux
