Even though it is a wooded parcel shelf it will still vibrate but not in a way u can hear. Just that is will alter u sound.
Point ur sub to the rear of the car making sure there is sound deadening under the panel on the boot hatch, this will prevent the licence plate to vibrate as much if u want to stop it completly then get some of them little white sticky pads and stick them on all four corners of ur plate.

If u were to remove ur 6x9's then it wouldn't sound rite as u say u'll have to holes that the air will flow straight through. If u want it to sound really good then get rid of the 6x9's and get a new shelf or get another peice of MDF the same shape as the shelf and screw it on underneath.

well its a wooden stealth shelf and it dont vibrate.
At the min it has 6x9's in it, if i remove them will it sound better??
The shelf will then have 2 6x9 shape holes in it....

to be honest, the best way would to cut a hole in the rear seats and wack the sub through  nice and loud that ;)

i had mine facing the boot but my liscence plate vibrated to fook so i switched it around so it faces inside the car, i think it gives off a better sound, also u feel it more

Yeah Mate. Ur parcel shelf will just vibrate to muchand will effect the sound.

i have done a lot of sound deadening.

i have the sub angled so it 'fires' towards the parcel shelf, wud it be better towards the back of the car?

It does make a difference as the bass still travels in sound waves so u gotta direct it the the best surface to rebound off. Facing the back of the car is a good option but another option is put ur box on one side of the boot facing the other wheel arch. If u want more volume and if u haven't done it yet is get ur whole boot sound deaded. Strip all panels out of the boot and any metal u see put sound deadedning on all so get a can of expandafoam and fill in around ur arches.

bass is none-directional

My sub used to face towards the boot-lid, but it now faces towards the back seat and it seems a bit louder.

i read a 4 page thingy where they experimented all positions, angles etc and used proper equipment to test. They found like speed6 said facing the boot is loudest

i wouldnt have thought so mate, because sub freqs can not be pin-pointed back to the original source - thats why when you driving around town and a chav goes past in his nova with the vibe subs at full blast, you will not be able to determine the original source of the bass for a little while.

So no, i dont think it will matter, but im not 100% sure on it mate, although if you take the parcel shelf off, then you will notice that the bass fills the car more quickly as the sub is using the rest of the air in the car.

Dom

p.s - there are better scientific explanations for the above stuff

Does it make any difference if the cone is horizontal (firing up or down) or vertical (firing sideways)??

will it make any difference to the sound?
